Faure Requiem for Remembrance Sunday

WOW joins Plumstead Chamber Choir for a concert for Remembrance Sunday with a performance of The Requiem by Gabriel Faure. Local soloists will join local choristers for an afternoon of beautiful music to reflect and remember.

There will also be the complete Songs of Travel by Ralph Vaughan Williams to celebrate 150 years since his birth.

An Opera Concert for Children

Join local singers Imogen Roose and Grant Doyle accompanied by the magnificent Sam Kimuli, as they present a relaxed and informal concert for the school holidays.

Join in with the Toreador! Help free the princess! Break the spell of the wicked wizard!

Curtain up at 4pm, with two 25 min halves. A 15 min interval will allow enjoyment of the afternoon tea.

Donations are most welcome - cash or card - as WOW functions entirely on the generosity of our audiences.

WOW Concert with Jeremy Silver

Jeremy Silver returns from South Africa to conduct a season at Longborough Festival and we are so happy that he will accompany the concert on June 12th.
This concert will feature more world class soloists, reverting to our 4 singer format, and be filled with classic favourites and memorable melodies.

This concert will also be our fundraiser for the WOW 2022 Autumn Season where we hope to raise around £1500 to continue our great work in the local community.

WOW joins London based Songhaven, a charity dedicated to bringing professional opera and singing to people living with dementia and their families, to put on a free concert & afternoon tea event at All Saints, Shooters Hill on Sunday 15th May at 4pm, ahead of Dementia Action Week.

Plumcroft Recital Series - 3 Make 1.

WOW is delighted to collaborate with Europik Music on this new concert/recital series right here in Woolwich - and it’s LIVE and you can ATTEND IN PERSON!
3 Make 1 is the first performance for an impromptu trio of soprano Tanya Hurst, cellist Timothée Botbol and pianist Chad Vindin.

The concert will feature music by Strauss, Brahms and Schubert as well as a new piece for voice and cello by Italian composer, Alessandro Viale.

Duration is approximately 45-50mins of music, with a brief Q&A to finish.

Tickets are £10 to attend in person, or £7 to Live Stream the event, plus booking fee.

Translations of all song texts will be projected to maximise audience participation with and enjoyment of, the music being performed.

COVID Precautions

All current guidelines regarding live music performance will be strictly adhered to. Audience members may sit in households/bubbles, and chairs will be correctly spaced to maintain safe social distancing.

Tickets will need to be shown at the door and a one way system will be in place.

This concert will be extra special. The first ever WOW Concert to feature Art Song. Classical songs by the great composers: Schubert, Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Faure, Duparc, Mozart, Britten, Wolf, Finzi, Vaughan Williams, Quilter and many others.

This will be the first opportunity for Woolwich Opera Works to introduce our audiences to the magical joys, powerful emotions and stunning beauty of the popular songs from the last two and a half Centuries.

Welcome to the Woolwich Opera Works 2019 Season.

On Sunday, April 28th at 4pm, you are warmly invited to attend the wondrous spectacle of Spring at the home of Woolwich Opera Works; All Saint’s Church in Shooters Hill.

The premier concert for 2019 will bring the joys of Springtime to south east London as it overflows with classical melodies, new favourites and a raucous sing along.

The Elixir of Love

Wow Opera are excited to visit St Michaels in Abbey Wood presenting extracts from Donizetti’s Opera‘The Elixir of Love’. Sung in Italian and staged in costume, with the story told by a narrator in English.  Then a 2nd half of famous Italian opera songs made famous by the likes of Pavarotti, The Three Tenors and others. Sung in a beautiful traditional church with very good acoustics.

ZEN & SINGING WEEKEND

A weekend exploring mental awareness combined with performing. We are delighted to welcome for the first time in the UK this specialised and unique course. The focus is on developing an insight into the artist and the inner self. The course aims to build confidence, reduce anxiety and acquire the skills to perform to your best ability.

Zen & Singing was developed and taught in Amsterdam in 2007 by Marc Brookhuis and Elsina Jansen, and in the following years became an international course based in France. Since then, up to 150 students and professionals have participated with a tremendous success rate.

Marc Brookhuis has had more than 15 years’ experience in Zen meditation and mindfulness and works as Zen teacher and mental coach for performers. Elsina Jansen is an active stage director and lectures at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and the Prins Claus Conservatoire in Groningen

The course starts on Friday 8th evening and continues on Saturday 9th with the final day being an afternoon and evening session. Two sessions will be spent on singing and performance with pianist Richard Black accompanying.

The venue will be All Saints Shooters Hill, Herbert Road, SE18 3PU. Booking is not yet open but please contact to register your interest or if you require further details.

FREE CONCERT - SUMMER OPERA GALA

In the spirit of summer opera galas, WOW presents a sizzling programme of the most popular opera favourites such as Pearl Fishers duet, Nessun Dorma, Carmen, Barcarolle and much more with a host of talented singers accompanied on the piano by Jeremy Silver.  Guest artists include Dominic Natoli, Carole Irvine, Alejandro Lopez Montoya, Tony Baker, Carolyn Dobbin and Sally Silver.

We will be having a Wear a Hat competition with a prizes for Adults and children to raise awareness  and  a donation to Brain Tumour Research.
